Nova Scotia Arctic Charr’s mission is to become best known for the superior quality of farm raised Arctic Charr. Located in Truro, Nova Scotia the Arctic Charr are raised in a state of the art facility where quality is the number one priority.

Currently available in selected regional markets, Nova Scotia Arctic Charr will be available to a North American marketplace.

Nova Scotia Arctic Charr is a new company with a long association with the land and sea. It is owned and operated by members of the Millbrook First Nation community, a Mi'kmaq First Nation people. It is based in the community to allow ownership and pride to be enstilled in those who work at the facility and those that live in the community. Established in 2003, Nova Scotia Arctic Charr is already being recognized as a leader in North America of cold water finfish aquaculture and a provider of premium quality Arctic Charr. Nova Scotia Arctic Charr is also involved in working with local agricultural and community colleges to enhance training and student opportunities. In addition, we are involved in Arctic Charr research and development with respect to several aspects of fish culture to ensure that the best technologies and husbandry practices are always in use. Nova Scotia Arctic Charr is committed to offering a consistent supply of the highest quality Arctic Charr products to the Food Service and Retail Seafood Sectors.

Our aquaculture facility is located on the Millbrook Reserve in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada. Water supply for the farm is from a drilled well, and with a recirculation rate of greater than 95% only 25 usgpm are required. All wastes from the farm are discharged to the municipal sewage and treated at the county treatment plant. Thus, there is no potential for environmental impacts on surrounding natural resources.

The 15,000 sq. ft. contained and controlled aquaculture facility features 10 culture tanks, and associated recirculation equipment. Total system volume is 964 cubic meters capable of an annual production of 130 metric tonnes of Nova Scotia Arctic Charr. There is also a greenhouse structure on site that houses an aquaponics facility, which utilizes a portion of the effluent from the aquaculture facility.

Arctic Charr is not a commodity, it is best described as a “boutique fish” yet has comparable qualities of the Rainbow Trout and Atlantic Salmon. The facilities where our fish are grown contribute to and differentiate us from all the rest. Internal quality control, lighting, temperature, feeding and handling are all factors that contribute to the quality of our product that our clients have come to enjoy and expect!

Nova Scotia Arctic Charr was established as an economic development initiative of the Millbrook First Nation and has exceeded all expectations.
