River’s Bend started manufacturing flooring at its site in Meadow Green Nova Scotia, Canada in 1994. The company has grown and expanded since then and in 2003 opened a new manufacturing facility and wholesale outlet. River’s Bend manufactures it own line of Nova Scotian unfinished flooring as well as wainscoting, baseboard, casing and they also have the ability to do custom profiles. They are very proud of their milling and receive numerous compliments on the length of their flooring strips. They continually strive to exceed industry standards in the manufacturing of wood flooring. River’s Bend now retails Preverco prefinished flooring as well as Mirage’s line of engineered flooring. The new warehouse outlet also boasts beautiful stair systems from Lambton.
River’s Bend is a privately owned and operated company. Two brothers John and Paul van de Wiel manage production of the mill and sales. Until recently River’s Bend wholesaled most of its product to retail locations throughout the Maritimes and Western Canada. While wholesaling continues to be the mainstay of this Nova Scotia based Company, the new warehouse outlet has allowed them the opportunity to increase retail sales and expand product lines. It allows them the ability to showcase their Nova Scotian wood and promote a product they understand first hand from milling to final finish. They truly are the local hardwood experts.
River’s Bend handles its product from saw log to finished product. The majority of its domestic lumber is purchased from Nova Scotian sawmills. Exotic species are usually brought in kiln dried for specialty orders. There are four kilns as well as a sawmill located at the companies Meadow Green site. The dry product is transported to the new facility where it is milled into flooring, mouldings or wainscoting. This allows close controls on the humidity of the product. Humidity and moisture readings are taken daily to ensure products are at the proper level for installation.
Equipment at the new facility consists of SMI gang rip, a 6-head Cantec moulder, a 5-head Wadkin moulder, pneumatic chop saws, and an end matcher. The sawmill and kilns are located at their property in Meadow Green.
