Established in 1889, the Stellarton Police Service maintains peace, order and security to the Town of Stellarton. The Stellarton Police Service is also responsible for preventing crime and disorder, apprehending offenders, and bringing the offenders to justice, and addressing the fears and concerns of its citizens with respect to crime and disorder. The Stellarton Police are also responsible for the management of several crime prevention programs, such as Neighborhood Watch, Block Parents, Video Ident, Business Security, Drug Awareness, Fraud Alert, Home Security, Shoplifting and as well support youth programs in the Town of Stellarton.
The Chief of Police is Ambrose J. Heighton. The Police Service hires him in 1973, he was promoted to Corporal in 1979, he was promoted to Sergeant in 1982 and he was promoted to Chief in 1999.
The Chief of Police is the traffic authority in the Town of Stellarton, and is responsible for future transportation planning within the Town.
