AMS Mediation Associates is a team of professionals providing a full spectrum of conflict resolution services to its clients. It was established in 1985 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The founding partners, Suki Starnes, a lawyer, and Annette Strug, a social worker, working as a team combined their backgrounds, training and experience to offer mediation and facilitation services to assist clients to resolve workplace, family, business, and community conflicts.
AMS Mediation Associates has expanded its team and offers mediation, arbitration, facilitation, evaluation, assessment, investigation, and dispute systems design services to assist individuals, organizations and corporations to assess, investigate, and resolve conflicts. Examples of services we have provided are mediation services for a First Nation Band, facilitation services for the National Research Council of Canada, third party neutral evaluation services for the Federal Government, a conflict resolution design process for a provincial government department, a partnering workshop for the Department of National Defence, and the investigation of harassment complaints for the Department of National Defence. AMS Mediation Associates provides its clients with private, safe, effective and efficient processes in which parties can make decisions which will lead to satisfactory agreements to conflicts.
AMS Mediation Associates has designed and taught courses and educational programs in conflict resolution, communication, negotiation, and mediation. We have delivered hundreds of programs in these subjects for Federal and Provincial governments, universities, private organizations, businesses and individuals. We teach negotiation, facilitation, and mediation to foreign government departments, and military units in Bosnia, Romania, and Argentina. The participants in our courses include a broadly diverse cross section of people in Canada and around the world. Our courses are focused on teaching participants the theory, processes and skills necessary to manage change and to manage conflict positively.
