Firm Profile: General Statement
Gillis & Associates is a small, progressive law firm located in Bedford Nova Scotia. The lawyers and staff at our firm work together to ensure that our clients’ needs are met with professional, sensitive, and attentive service that tailors services to clients’ unique requirements. Our goal is to provide clients with personalized attention that aims to bring about an effective resolution to their legal matters.
Firm Structure and Resources
Our firm includes two full-time lawyers and two legal assistants. We make efficient use of resources such as an up-to-date library of Nova Scotia decisions and relevant legal texts; access to an internet database of Canadian legal decisions, texts, journals, and information documents; bailiff services; and legal transcript services. We are always upgrading the technological support in our office and provide for distance access to files as needed.
Client Base
Gillis & Associates is a firm that handles a diverse array of clients. Our lawyers have experience representing clients who include individuals, corporations, small businesses, not-for-profit agencies, labour unions, and academic institutions. We are pleased to travel within or outside of the province of Nova Scotia as our clients’ needs dictate. We appear in courts and before boards or tribunals throughout Nova Scotia as well.

Clients are the focus of Gillis & Associates, because we pride ourselves on the satisfaction of the people we serve, and on the business we receive through client referrals. We make no distinction between large or small clients in the service we provide. Clients of our firm can be assured of our dedication to providing knowledgeable but realistic legal advice, protecting their confidentiality, acting in good faith on their behalf, and scrupulously upholding the standards of legal ethics.
Professional Development
The lawyers of Gillis & Associates are dedicated to maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of current legal issues, legal developments, judicial decisions, and legislative changes. To assist us in this endeavour, we attend Continuing Legal Education courses.
Community Involvement
We believe that lawyers achieve excellence and can enhance their effectiveness from a client’s perspective by nurturing balanced personal lives and by involving themselves in the service of their communities. To achieve this commitment, the lawyers of Gillis & Associates pride themselves on their past and ongoing community involvement, which includes service on the boards of women’s support groups such as the Elizabeth Fry Society; children’s groups, such as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada and Nova Scotia; and committees of other local charitable organizations. We also participate in charitable fund-raising events.
