The Markland Coastal Resort is located at the top of Cape Breton Island just off the Cabot Trail on the Atlantic Ocean. Our 70 acre property with a sandy ocean beach to the east, pristine lake to the south, and boreal forest to the north is a choice spot for nature lovers. Cape Breton Island was named one of the four most beautiful islands in the world by Conde Nast Traveller (Dec/94). It is located at the northeast tip of Nova Scotia, Canada.

The island is renowned for its outstanding beauty and friendly, relaxed, and genuine hospitality. It offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in North America. The spectacular touring route, the Cabot Trail, contours the large northern peninsula. Sitings of whales, eagles and moose are common in the highlands where the Cape Breton Highlands National Park provides tourists with many hiking trails, look-off views and interpretive assistance.

Cuisine
Delight in the Markland's fresh local bounty prepared by our master chef Norman Ng. Enjoy the fresh daily catch of halibut or swordfish, seasonal gatherings of wild mint, mushrooms and blueberries. Fishermen know to bring their fresh catches to our door and foragers arrive with fresh fiddleheads and berries. Our greens are organic and carefully grown by a local market gardener and the Aspy Bay mussles and oysters are the best one can find. We offer a well balanced wine list to complement a typical menu. We feature rack of lamb and tender halibut and our signature 'fruits de mer bouillabaise'. Complete your dinner with a delicious chocolate mousse or a scrumptuous sampling of our chef's home made ice creams and sorbets..

The Markland Coastal Resort is cradled in one of the most truly magical locations on the Atlantic Coast. A seven mile crescent of five sandy beaches stretch from one end of the bay to the other and from its perimetres, the verdant rolling highlands rise to encircle the spectacular watershed of the Apsy River basin. The Markland combines great food and quality accommodation to create an ideal home base during your stay to explore the beaches and coves of this stunning region. Nearby villages offer Nova Scotia's best whale watching and the adjacent National Park provides safe, marked trails to explore the incredible natural wonders of the Cape Breton Highlands.
