This historic house is one of the oldest in Dartmouth. It has been the site of several tea rooms over the years, including Tea and Temptations, still affectionately remembered by Dartmouthians, Haligonians and visitors alike.
Best afternoon tea: Just because you can’t find a proper afternoon tea in Halifax doesn’t mean you have to leave Nova Scotia without lovely scones. Take a 12-minute ferry ride across the bay (US$2 round-trip) to the neighbouring town of Dartmouth, home of the Queen of Cups, and walk just two blocks north from the ferry landing. Here you’ll be presented with a tray of 16 different tea leaves to select from (try the pear tree green tea), before being served a tower of cucumber and salmon sandwiches, chocolate covered strawberries, and scones with cream. It’s so rich, you might want to swim all the way back to Halifax (44 Ochterloney Street, Dartmouth; 902-463-1983, afternoon tea for two, US$20 or $30 Canadian — 24 hours advance notice required for afternoon teas).
