Incredibly rare coldwater coral jewellery from Nova Scotia, Canada. Handmade by discoverer and researcher Derek P. Jones. All proceeds to assist in the research and conservation of Canada's neglected coral species and ocean habitat educational activities. bluenose coral comes in colours of white, blue, green, black and gold but is considered black since it grows below the photic zone at 1500 feet deep. The ocean trees discarded on the wharves home to the provincial sailing embassador 'The Bluenose' have 'eyes' and are considered precious throughout the world. Not available on Ebay.
Although Bluenose Coral is the hardest known coral anywhere proper care should be exercised since the material is softer than other gemstones. The unique jewels are very limited in supply and were created to demonstate the value of Nova Scotia's red tree coral that are currently considered a nusance species. The Nova Scotia coral pendants and earrings are priced from $20 up and special orders are welcomed.
