The Port Pub and Bistro is an exciting new establishment serving locally grown quality food and craft-brewed beers in a scenic riverside location in the midst of the fertile picturesque Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia.
What is a Gastropub? A gastropub is a British term for a public house (“pub”) which specializes in high-quality food. The name is a combination of pub and gastronomy and was coined in 1991 when David Eyre and Mike Belben opened a pub called The Eagle in Clerkenwell, London. They placed emphasis on the quality of food served.
Gastropubs usually have an atmosphere which is relaxed and a focus on offering a particular cuisine prepared as well as it is in the best restaurants. Staying true to the format requires a menu that complements the assortment of beers and wines the gastropub offers.
We came up with the idea one snowy evening when six of us were sharing TGIF drinks around a fireplace in Port Williams. Someone suggested, “Wouldn’t it be great to have a pub in Port Williams?” The reasons seemed obvious, it would be easy for many to walk home, and for a growing community, Port Williams lacked a place for friends to gather and socialize.
Three years later, after many hoops and hurdles, our co-operative pub is open with over forty community shareholders.
Our goal is to provide employment, minimize ‘food kilometers’ – several products such as cheese and grass-fed beef are from Starr’s Point, which is within five kms of The Port – and showcase the bucolic pastoral views of the tides and dykelands.
We want you to enjoy the friendship and community spirit, the view, our handcrafted beers and great local food. We hope that you will be a regular visitor.

passion will get you far. Peter has spent the last 16 years cooking
in various restaurants around Nova Scotia ranging from the bustling
waterfront of our Province's capital, to the picturesque town of
Wolfville. Peter has been with the Port Pub & Bistro since its
