On May 3, 2007, Lisa Dehart and Len Falardeau became the new owner/operators of the Whitman Inn. We both lived in Alberta and made the decision to settle down in Kempt, Nova Scotia and become innkeepers.
From 2007 on we are open year round!!!
The Whitman Inn is a fully restored country inn, located by Kejimkujik National Park in western Nova Scotia's scenic woodland interior. Located on Highway # 8 (The Kejimkujik Scenic Drive) in the tiny village of Kempt, the inn was built circa 1912 by the Spurgeon DeLong family.
The DeLong homestead was refurbished into a country inn in 1982. It was doubled in size in 1989 to accommodate more bedrooms and additional leisure facilities.
Today the inn offers 8 comfortable bedrooms with private baths and 1 two bedroom housekeeping unit. The entire inn has been renovated and redecorated in 2002/2003.
Dining at the Inn
BREAKFAST
The country breakfast, served daily from 8 - 9:30 am, offers french toast, pancakes with local wild blueberries, fresh farm eggs prepared a variety of ways with bacon and toasted homemade bread or cereal, fresh fruit & yogourt for $ 7.00.
LUNCH
Planning a day out in the wilderness? Don't forget to order your lunchbag. It contains a sandwich, fruit, cake, 0.5 l water & juice for $ 9.00
DINNER
Our evening dinners feature swiss and international recipes using the harvest of Nova Scotian gardens including our own vegetable and herb garden. All our meals and their trimmings are homemade in our kitchen.
In high season our restaurant is open for dinner every evening (July - September) from 6 pm to 8 pm. Dinner is only available upon reservation during shoulder season.
During shoulder season, to guarantee the quality and freshness of our meals, we offer 3 course dinners. Starting with a homemade soup or salad, followed by a seafood or meat dish and ending with a delicious dessert. The selection changes seasonally.
Please inform us about any dietary restrictions.
