Mateus Bistro

Opened in mid June 2010, owner Matthew Krizan moved to the Mahone Bay area from Iqaluit, Nunavut to live out his dream and passion. Originally born in Bratislava, Slovakia, he grew up in the kitchen with his mother Anna, learning the European way of cooking from a very early age. Naturally, he pursued his culinary dreams by graduating from Le Cordon Bleu in London, England.

Mateus Bistro is situated in the beautiful old town of Mahone Bay with easy access to the fine shops and sight seeing. Circa 1852, the building sets a quaint atmosphere while enjoying freshly made, French inspired cuisine. We pride ourselves with keeping things simple and casual but very fresh and all our ingredients as local to the area as possible.

Newly renovated, there is a tapas menu offered for people enjoying the new drink menu around the rustic walnut bar. The summer menu is locally inspired, freshly made, and we will be serving many grilled items on our outdoor wood barbecue.

Group bookings and private parties are available.
