Welcome to the Wolfville Animal Hospital. We're a full-time veterinary hospital, dedicated to serving the needs of small animals and their owners throughout the Annapolis Valley.

We are located at 12-112 Front Street, Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
Please call in any time to discuss your pet's health, nutrition and other needs.

Meet Our Family

As well as our veterinary clinic, we are home to the Valley Animal Shelter - a non-profit shelter and adoption centre for rescued and unwanted cats in the Wolfville Area.

In 1988 Dr. Peter Bligh saw the need to address the problem of stray and abandoned cats in the Kings Country area. At the time there was no other shelter of its type and still today the Valley Animal Shelter is the only one that exists in the county. Dr. Bligh, being both an animal lover and veterinarian, also saw a need for these neglected animals to get essential medical treatment, vaccinations to protect them against disease and, of course, spaying and neutering to address the underlying problem.

The ethical medical treatment of these pets ensures not only their well-being but also the health of family pets that may come in contact with stray felines. Controlling disease such as Feline Leukemia in our community must be a priority.

Adoption Info

How the adoption process works

Adoption Application Form (pdf) – click to view, or right-click and ‘Save as’ to download

1. Visit our shelter and select the right cat(s) for you and your household

2. Complete an Adoption Application. We will need to know if you have any other pets, if you have small children and if you own your own home or rent. We ask for this information so we can ensure that our cats are placed in the right “forever home”

3. Once your application is completed, there is a 24 to 48 hour waiting period while our Adoption Co-ordinator processes your application. This can include contacting your landlord, your previous veterinarian and your references.

While your application is being processed your selected cat will be put “on hold” for you.

4. If your application is approved, you will be contacted by our office and arrangements will be made for you to come in and pick up your new pet. An appointment will be arranged for you to meet with the veterinarian for a complete health check of your cat.

5. Once your cat has received a clean bill of health you simply pay the adoption fee, and you and your new pet can start your life together.
