Other Information
In 1943, a Buchanan family made their home available to use as a hospital during the winter months. Then in 1945, the Red Cross took over the hospital and opened it year round. In June 1999, a new facility was opened. Buchanan Memorial also has a 10-bed inpatient unit, which includes a Palliative Care/Pediatric Room, three treatment rooms and a chemotherapy preparation room in its Emergency Department. The health centre also has a Community Services wing that contains offices for Public Health, Home Care Nova Scotia, Addiction Services, a Dietitian, a Palliative Care Coordinator and a Social Worker.
